Widnes Vikings have announced the signing of Welsh international forward Gil Dudson from Wigan Warriors.
The 24 year-old former Celtic Crusader has signed a two year contract with the Vikings and head coach Denis Betts is pleased to have finally got his man, he told the club website:
“The signing of Gil Dudson shows a real ambition about what we are trying to do at the Vikings. We don’t pick up players without doing our homework. We’ve been talking about Gil for a number of months and he’s a player we have had to be a little bit patient with.”
First team opportunities were at a premium for Dudson at Wigan, the 110kg prop made 13 appearances for the Cherry and Whites last season. Warriors head coach Shaun Wane told the club website that Dudson’s opportunities would again be limited this year:
“Gil found chances hard to come by last year and with competition for places in the front row set to be even more intense this year I simply couldn’t guarantee him the game time he wanted.”
Dudson’s first Super League game for Widnes could be Super League’s curtain raiser against Wigan on February 5th.
