An injury hit Catalan Dragons entertain second place Leeds Rhinos in the seventh round of Super League action on Saturday.
The Rhinos have a superb Super League record against the French side, winning 17 of 22 games against the Dragons, including their last three visits to Perpignan.
It could be a tough afternoon for Laurent Frayssinous’ side, who are coming off the back of successive defeats on the road. They will be without Todd Carney, Vincent Duport, Michael Oldfield and Greg Mounis through injury. However, Ben Pomeroy returns to the squad following suspension.
The Stade Gilbert Brutus is something of a fortress for Catalan, they have lost just twice their since the Rhinos beat them on February 28th last year.
The Rhinos themselves will be without Tom Briscoe, Kylie Leuleuai and skipper Kevin Sinfield for the trip to France. Mitch Achurch is included in the 19 man squad after missing his side’s last two games.
Rob Burrow could surpass the 1000 point mark for the Rhinos on Saturday, he is currently on 997; while Super League’s top try scorer Danny McGuire is just 11 points short of four figures for the club.
This game is sure to feature free-flowing and expansive plays, with both sides keen on keeping the ball alive, particularly in the forwards. Leeds’ Adam Cuthbertson has made 30 offloads so far this season, 12 more than any other player in the league. Zeb Taia sits third on the most offloads chart with 16 for the Dragons. In fact these two sides are responsible for six of the top 10 offloaders so far this season.
Prediction: The Rhinos have an excellent record against Catalan and do well against them in Perpignan. They can exploit the Dragons defence with their offload game, off the back of which players like Moon, Hall, McGuire and Burrow can profit. Rhinos by 16 in a points fest.
