Elliott Whitehead will join NRL side Canberra Raiders in 2016 on a two-year deal.
The former Bradford Bulls second-rower left Odsal for Catalan Dragons in June 2013 and has been in impressive form in the south of France. He finished the 2014 Super League season as the highest try-scoring forward and has touched down and 24 times in 44 appearances for The Dragons.
Whitehead’s form throughout last season was rewarded by England coach Steve McNamara who handed him his international debut in last Autumn’s Four Nations tournament.
“I have been given the opportunity to go and play in the NRL which I have always wanted to do,” Whitehead told the BBC.
“I would like to thank the club and the fans for everything they have done for me and I’m still fully committed to the Dragons this season.”
Raiders CEO, Don Furner expressed his excitement at the capture of the 25 year-old on his club’s website; “Elliott is a young but experienced first-grade player.
“We’ve seen so far this season the positive impact players like Josh Hodgson and Sia Soliola have had on our squad and we look forward to Elliott continuing this for our club.”
