Centurions snap up home town hero Higham

Leigh Centurions have signed Micky Higham from Warrington Wolves for a fee of £50,000.

The 34 year-old has signed a deal until the end of 2016 with his home town club, with the option of extending his stay there a further 12 months.

Leigh had a bid for the veteran hooker turned down by the Wolves a week ago, but got their man by breaking their own Summer era transfer fee club record.

Derek Beaumont, Leigh’s Head of Rugby, told the club website; “I am absolutely delighted to have Micky on board. It is no secret I am fully committed to doing what is necessary to build this club‎ into a competitive Super League club.

“Micky’s performances this year for Warrington have been solid and he has been their starting nine, playing in every game and keeping current Man of Steel Daryl Clark behind him.”

A statement on the Warrington Wolves club website read; “We would like to thank Micky for his outstanding service to the club over seven seasons since his debut in 2009. In his time at Warrington he has celebrated three Challenge Cup wins, a League Leaders Shield and reached two Grand Finals. We wish him well for his future.”

The former Great Britain and England international is available for Leigh’s Summer Bash game against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday, in what is a repeat of last season’s Championship Grand Final.
