Castleford Tigers have signed Gadwin Springer on a two and-a-half year deal.
The 22 year-old joins the Tigers from Catalan Dragons with immediate effect.
Prop forward Springer made his Super League debut last year against St Helens and has made three appearances from the bench for the Dragons so far this season, scoring his only Super League try against Hull KR.
“We are delighted to have signed a quality young prop,” coach Daryl Powell told the club website.
“He is big, strong and aggressive which are obviously key qualities for his position and the fact that we can bring him in now is a bonus and I look forward to working with him.”
Springer joined the Dragons in 2012 from Toulouse and has also spent time playing for St Esteve reserve team.
Christophe Jouffret, Catalan’s chief executive, confirmed the French side had offered Springer a new deal, but the talented youngster turned them down in favour of a move to the Jungle: “He has a great potential and could have a promising future.”
“We invested a lot on his development and allowed him to become a professional player and we regret that he did not accept the good contract we offered to him.
“However, we wish him all the best with his new club.”
Springer could be selected for the Tigers’ next match against league leaders St Helens on Thursday.
