Carney signs new deal with Dragons

Todd Carney has signed a new deal with Catalans Dragons, keeping him in the South of France for the next three-years.

The controversial half-back endured an injury-hit first season in Super League, managing just 12 appearances for the Dragons.

Catalans chairman Bernard Guasch spoke of his delight at Carney’s signature and of the former Dally M winner’s importance to head coach Laurent Frayssinous: “Laurent Frayssinous wants to build the future of the club with and around Todd Carney,” said Guasch via

“After long discussions with Todd, we managed to find an agreement. He has had a tough season but he feels good here and wants to stay at the Catalans Dragons.

“The club and Todd have great common ambitions, he is a tremendous player who will help us to realise our goals and dreams and I’m really proud to keep him at the club.

“I am very happy for all the rugby league fans, for our supporters especially and our sponsors that Todd has chosen to stay in Perpignan.

“He showed that he is a quality rugby league player every time he was on the field and we are very pleased to announce the signing of this new contract.”

Meanwhile, 29 year-old Carney is reportedly set to sue former club Cronulla Sharks over claims he was wrongfully dismissed.
