Widnes Vikings hooker Aaron Heremaia has agreed a new one-year contract extension with the club.
The deal keeps the 33 year-old with the Vikings until 2017.
Heremaia joined the Vikings from Hull FC for the 2015 season and was an ever-present for Denis Betts’ side, scoring four tries in 32 appearances.
The former New Zealand Warrior, who was named as Widnes’ Players’ Player of the Year in 2015, said it was an easy decision to pen the new deal: “I’m really enjoying my time here and I’m very happy to stay. It’s a very professional set-up here and it was an easy decision to commit for another year.
“We’ve got some good players coming in, with (Setaimata) Sa, Chris (Bridge), (Chris) Houston and Corey (Thompson) and the Club keeps making little gains in all areas to move forward. If we can try and be a bit more consistent then we will do better than last year and reach the top eight,” Heremaia continued via the club’s website.
“My body’s fine and I feel fresh. I’m one of the oldest boys in the team, so it’s important that we mentor the young guys. The future looks bright at the Club with some of the kids coming through,” he added.
Betts said of the former New Zealand international: “Aaron does everything you want from a player. He is fantastic to have around the place and we didn’t want to risk losing him at the end of the year.”
