Wakefield Wildcats have signed Jason Walton on a one-year contract, with the option of extending the deal for a further 12 months.
The 25 year-old has been allowed to leave London Broncos to move to West Yorkshire despite having a year remaining on his deal with the Championship side.
Centre Walton started his career in Super League wih Salford, before moving to Championship side Batley Bulldogs, for whom he made over 100 appearances before rejoining the Red Devils in 2014.
However, after making just seven appearances for Salford in 2015 he joined the Broncos, where he made only six starts.
Walton told the Wildcats’ website: “I am very excited to have signed, it’s a great opportunity. I am looking forward to working with Brian Smith, he is a fantastic coach and I cannot wait to continue to grow as a player and learn from him.”
Smith added: “Jason has immediately impressed everyone at the Wildcats with his enthusiasm. His rugby talents and strong physical attributes suggest that Jason will make a real contribution in this big opportunity for him.”
